New Micro-Dairy, New Chapter

We are delighted to announce the completion and opening of our brand-new micro-dairy in Cwmbran, a major milestone in the evolution of Usk Valley Cheese Company.

Over the past two years, our family-run business has grown from a small start-up at Food Centre Wales in Ceredigion into a recognised artisan cheesemaker producing award-winning cheeses inspired by the landscape, flavours and culture of the Usk Valley. As demand for our cheeses continued to rise, it became clear that our rented space at Food Centre Wales could no longer support the scale of production we needed.

“Our business was born from a hobby and a love of exploring great cheese,” says Ethan Parry, co-owner of Usk Valley Cheese Company alongside his parents, Bann and Steven. “The support we received at Food Centre Wales, from recipe development to testing and packaging, was invaluable. But we knew the time had come to take the next step and build a home of our own. Our new micro-dairy in Cwmbran is exactly what we needed to scale production and continue crafting high-quality, artisanal cheese.”

From this new site, the team will produce larger batches of its signature cheeses, including:

  • Chartists’ Heritage - a tribute to Newport’s historic Chartist uprising

  • Roman Gold - inspired by the Roman heritage of Caerleon

  • Six Peaks - infused with garlic and herbs, named after the Brecon Beacons and winner of Gold in the New Cheese Category at the British Cheese Awards 2025

“This new space allows us to take full control of our process, from milk to wheel,” Ethan adds. “We’re proud to be part of the thriving Welsh cheese community and to be contributing to what we believe is some of the best artisan cheesemaking in Britain.”

With the micro-dairy now fully operational, we’re turning our attention to the next phase of our journey - growing production, strengthening our relationships with local milk suppliers, and expanding our range through new product development. Exciting things lie ahead as we continue to build on the foundations of handcrafted, Welsh artisan cheese.
