CHEESE THAT TELLS A STORY

At Usk Valley Cheese Company, we reconnect people with authentic, local, artisanal cheeses, rich in flavour and steeped in heritage.

As a family-run cheesemaker based in our micro-dairy in Cwmbran, we craft award-winning cheeses celebrated for their quality and craftsmanship. Using milk sourced from trusted regional dairy farmers, every wheel reflects the very best of the Usk Valley.

Both the outer sleeve and the vacuum-packed pouch of our gouda-style cheeses have been certified home compostable since February 2025, helping reduce plastic waste and making it easier for customers to dispose of responsibly.

Keeping miles low while supporting the local economy. We work closely with Castle Farm in Newport and Josh’s Jerseys in Abergavenny, building strong relationships with small-scale farmers to bring the freshest, highest-quality milk straight to our dairy.

We are aiming to ensure that used whey is returned to local farms as nutritious animal feed, and that wastewater is recycled within our dairy operations, with both practices in place by the end of 2026.

Provenance Starts at the Source

The character of every cheese begins long before it reaches the dairy. That’s why we work closely with trusted local farming families whose commitment to quality, animal welfare and stewardship of the land mirrors our own. By sourcing milk from farms within the Usk Valley region, we can trace every batch back to its source, creating cheeses that truly reflect the landscape they come from.

Castle Farm

The milk behind our Gouda-style cheeses

Located in the rural village of Bishton near Newport, Castle Farm has been a family-run farm since the 1970s. Over the years, the family has evolved the business while remaining firmly rooted in farming, focusing on producing fresh milk and eggs directly from the farm. Their herd of Holstein and Jersey cows graze the surrounding pastures, with animal welfare and quality at the heart of everything they do.

Josh's Jerseys

The milk behind our Brie-style cheese

Nestled in the countryside surrounding Abergavenny, Josh’s Jerseys is a fourth-generation family dairy farm built around a simple philosophy: healthy soil, healthy cows and exceptional milk. The farm’s pedigree Jersey herd spends most of the year grazing outdoors, with a strong focus on animal welfare, longevity and low-stress farming. As a closed herd, generations of cows remain on the farm throughout their lives, while careful management of the soil and pasture helps maintain the health of both the land and the animals that depend on it.

WHY WE STAND OUT

HERITAGE CONNECTION

Our cheeses are deeply rooted in the stories, landscapes, and traditions of the Usk Valley. From Roman influences and industrial heritage to the region’s iconic mountains and historic movements, each cheese is inspired by a unique part of local history. Every wheel offers more than great flavour. It creates a connection to place, giving a taste of Welsh heritage alongside a memorable cheeseboard experience.

ARTISINAL EXCELLENCE

We believe exceptional cheese cannot be rushed. Every batch is crafted with care using traditional cheesemaking techniques, quality ingredients and close attention to detail throughout the process. As a small family-run dairy, we focus on character, consistency, and flavour rather than volume, creating cheeses that stand apart from mass-produced alternatives and celebrate true craftsmanship.

AWARD WINNING FLAVOURS

Great cheese starts with great ingredients, but it’s the care, patience, and craftsmanship behind every batch that truly makes the difference. Recognition from industry judges is a testament to our commitment to quality, but our focus remains the same - creating distinctive, characterful cheeses.
